Just yesterday, the projected Illinois football depth chart was released by Jeremy Werner of Scout.com.

There has been speculation the entire spring and summer what the depth chart could look like entering the first game of the season. I couldn’t tell you how many different articles I published with the possibilities that were ahead.

In this depth chart, there were a few givens for the Illini. Quarterback Chayce Crouch is an obvious starter. He is the No. 1 quarterback on the roster right now. Kendrick Foster is the No. 1 running back on the roster as well, that was a given.

Malik Turner and Mike Dudek are going to form a great one-two punch as starting wide receivers as well. They should do some special things for the Illini. Christian DiLauro, Nick Allegretti and Gabe Megginson are all projected to start on the offensive line.

On the defensive side the ball there are a few sure-fire starters as well. Jamal Milan at defensive tackle is an important piece to the Illini defense being special. Tre Watson in the middle at linebacker is going to be great for Illinois. And Jaylen Dunlap has a chance to do some great things at cornerback.

There were also some surprises to this depth chart as well. Here are five surprising things on the Scout depth chart.
