The class of 2020 might seem far away but it is a class the Illinois basketball team needs to focus on for long-term viability.

There are multiple players Illinois is focusing on from the class of 2020 right now. The main target and player who is already highly rated is Adam Miller. He is a 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard who is the No. 18 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois.

Miller doesn’t have a ton of scholarship offers right now but that is purely because it is so early in the recruiting process. This kid is going to blow up and it will likely be sooner than later. Last night, Miller took to Twitter to reveal some schools who have offered him a scholarship and who he has an interest in.

This list includes seven programs – let’s call them Miller’s top seven teams – and they are all pretty big programs. The biggest and most intimidating right now is Kansas. The Jayhawks are always a team to keep an eye on because they do have great recruiters and they have recruited the Chicago area well as of late. Side note, Miller just transferred up to Morgan Park High School in Chicago to play for his AAU coach Nick Irvin. He was attending Manual High School in Peoria.

The seven programs that Miller listed last night were Bradley, Stanford, Michigan, West Virginia, Kansas, Iowa and Illinois. There are some pretty good programs in there that Illinois will have to compete with but when 2020 rolls around, there is no doubt this program will need a guard like Miller.

If you look at the Illinois roster right now, the only guards that will be on the team are the current incoming freshman class of 2017. That class includes Da’Monte Williams, Mark Smith and Trent Frazier. And even with these three guards, they will all be seniors and I have my doubts Smith will use all four years of eligibility.

Illinois is also in the running for a guard in the class of 2018. They have their eyes set on Ayo Dosunmu who also attends Morgan Park High School. He is really the only top guard the Illini are going after in 2018 and 2019. So that means there will be plenty of room for Miller to step in and play right away. Also, it would be nice to land Dosunmu because that would help recruit Miller as well.

It is exciting for Illinois to be on Miller’s radar so early in the recruiting process. Hopefully, they can continue pulling away guards from the blue bloods and build this team into a powerhouse once again.
