The Illinois basketball team has had some great players come through the program, but who deserves to be on the Mount Rushmore?

With every team in the history of the Illinois program, there have been players who have stood out. These players sometimes put up tremendous numbers yet the team ends up not making the NCAA tournament. There are also times when the team has multiple great players and the team succeeds. But, who do you pick for the Mount Rushmore?

Another question is how far back do you go for the Mount Rushmore? The Mount Rushmore could include John “Red” Kerr who averaged 18.9 points per game in his career in the Orange and Blue. I didn’t end up picking him because Illinois didn’t have postseason success but it was hard to leave him off because it was harder to make the NCAA tournament back in the 1950’s.

There were also other great Illinois basketball players left off the Mount Rushmore because I could only put four people up there. I know some former players might be upset, I am looking at you Eddie Johnson, but this Mount Rushmore has four strong faces on it.

Here is the Illinois basketball Mount Rushmore.
