Mark Alstork

Illinois needed more guard depth before the 2017 season started. They snagged a great class of 2017 but there was one graduate transfer who the Illini wanted. Mark Alstork was that player and Underwood ended up getting this prized transfer.

Alstork came from Wright State where he averaged 19 points per game. He was a superstar scorer for that team and he will be the same for the Illini. This kid will be great in Underwood’s system and will likely start at the No. 3 spot for the team.

The starting No. 1 and No. 2 guards for the Illini will each receive 28 minutes per game. Alstork won’t be too far behind those two at the No. 3 spot averaging roughly 26 minutes per game. This is a solid number considering the depth the Illini have at the guard position.

Alstork will also be replaced every once in a while by a forward as well. So, there are a lot of options for Underwood to play around with this upcoming season.

Illinois has a roster that I feel comfortable with for the first time in a very long time. This group of players can win games and get to the NCAA tournament year one. That is a realistic goal and I believe they can do it.
