Illinois Basketball: Minutes breakdown for Illini guards
Da’Monte Williams
The late 1990’s and early 2000’s was the resurgence of the Illinois basketball program. One of the leaders on those teams was Frank Williams He was a superstar guard for the Illini who ended up going to the NBA. His son, Da’Monte Williams, now plays for the Illini.
Williams came from the class of 2017 with Frazier and Smith. He has a lot to prove after having a few injury plagued seasons to finish out his high school career. This also dropped him down to a three-star level player according to the recruiting sites. That is just another chip on this kids shoulder, though.
When Williams was on the court in high school and in AAU he was spectacular. He could do just about anything for a team. He can rebound, distribute and even hit game-winning shots from deep. This kid is everything you want in a basketball player.
Illinois got a steal with Williams. While he won’t be starting year one, he will still see some crucial minutes for the Illini. He will likely get about 10 minutes per game and these will help give rest to the starters.
Expect Williams to play well too. He is extremely talented and if you don’t recognize that now, you better get onboard soon. This kid will show what he is made of this winter when he suits up in the Orange and Blue. He will go from Frank’s son to just Monte within the next year.
