Fa’Najae Gotay

The Illinois football team continued offering recruits from the state of Florida a few days ago. Lovie Smith and the coaching staff extending a scholarship offer to Fa’Najae Gotay.

Gotay is a 6-foot, 205-pound recruit from North Fort Myers High School in North Fort Myers, Florida. He is a three-star recruit from the class of 2018 who isn’t ranked nationally but he does have a ton of recruiting action right now.

Despite only being a three-star recruit, Gotay has 20 scholarship offers including from Illinois who offered him on June 9. Some other notable programs to offer him a scholarship are Arkansas, Tennessee and Maryland. This kid has all of this recruiting attention and for a good reason.

Gotay is an athlete in the truest form. He played a lot of linebacker in high school and with his athletic ability would dominate on the field. He has pretty good vision on where the ball carrier is going as well. He can see the play unfolding and get to the runner. His hitting ability is impressive as well. When he does approach a ball carrier he is able to tackle the player by himself.

The only worry about Gotay is his size. He is in between linebacker and safety size. If he commits to Illinois, look for him to turn into a dominating safety on the field. That is where he would fit in the best.
