Ronnie Perkins (Top 12)

The Illinois football team has a rich history of developing and sending defensive linemen to the NFL. This history has to help in the recruitment of Ronnie Perkins.

Perkins is a 6-foot-4, 250-pound weak-side defensive end out of Lutheran North High School in Saint Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 117 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 3 player in the state of Missouri.

Getting a player like Perkins would be a huge accomplishment for Lovie Smith and Hardy Nickerson. He would thrive in their system and would be the next top three round pick in the NFL Draft. But, the Illini are going to have to beat out some great teams to get him.

Perkins cut his list down to just 12 teams back on May 24. He will be choosing from Michigan, Oklahoma, Missouri, Georgia, Iowa State, Texas, USC, LSU, Nebraska, TCU, Iowa and Illinois. This is quite an impressive list to be choosing from.

If Illinois can make Perkins’ next cut down it would be impressive. They need a player like this to really help build this program. Hopefully, Lovie can pull off a commitment and continue building this defense into a powerhouse.
