3. Nimari Burnett

Like previously mentioned, the Illinois basketball team is after some talented point guards for 2020. These players have a chance to shape the future of the program.

Nimari Burnett is a player the Illini have pounced on early in his career. He isn’t ranked because there haven’t been rankings for 2020 just yet, but there is no doubt in my mind that he will be a four-star recruit in the top 100.

The recruiting for Burnett has yet to heat up. That will eventually happen but what Illinois did was jump on him early. They have already offered him a scholarship and are creating that bond that will hopefully, pull him into a commitment.

Getting Burnett would be big for the Illinois basketball program for many reasons. The first reason would be to continue building recruiting rapport in the state of Illinois. That is one of the issues in the past for the Illini coaches but getting a top Illinois player would be huge.

Another reason getting Burnett would be big is because he is from Morgan Park High School. That is a program Illinois has struck out with in the past. They need to start getting players from there and creating that pipeline.

Burnett is going to be a big-time player when his recruitment starts heating up. Hopefully, he doesn’t forget what team was the first to offer him a scholarship.
