No. 5 Forward/Center

Starter: Leron Black

As of right now, the starting center for the Illini is likely going to be Leron Black. Illinois only has one other player over 6-foot-7 and that is Michael Finke. There are some defensive liabilities there, and that is why he is not starting.

Black averaged 8.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last season. He is listed at 6-foot-7 but he plays bigger than that. With his 6-foot-11 wingspan, expect Black to get the starting nod at center if no transfer comes through.

Backup: Michael Finke

Michael Finke is an extremely talented player on the offensive end of the court. He can shoot from anywhere on the floor, including the three-point line.

The best attribute Finke brings to the table is his three-point shooting ability. He is a huge asset on that side of the court but when it comes to his defense, there is a reason to worry. He is 6-foot-10 and that is nice height, but keep an eye on his progression on defense.

Open Scholarship No. 3

There is always room for another center on the team. If Underwood can land a player like Akoy Agau or Dwight Coleby then Black should move to the starting forward spot and whoever they get in the transfer market should be the starting center. This would add depth and create a more conventional lineup.
