Talen Horton-Tucker

One name that has surfaced over the last few months for the class of 2018 is Talen Horton-Tucker. He is an under-the-radar type of player who can be a nice piece to a successful Illini team.

Horton-Tucker is a three-star recruit from Simeon High School in Chicago, Illinois. He didn’t make the top 100 in the Scout rankings, but he does have a lot of recruiting action. He has a handful of scholarship offers including from Iowa State, Missouri and Northwestern.

Illinois has already offered Horton-Tucker a scholarship and he is one player that I wouldn’t mind having on the team. The scholarship availability is the only area of concern for him.

Horton-Tucker was one of the bright spots for the Mac Irvin Fire in the first game of session one of the EYBL. He ended up dropping 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting. This was a nice efficient game that makes me happy as a basketball fan.

In the second game, Horton-Tucker didn’t score as much, but he was more of an all-around player. He finished with 10 points and also had 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He finished with a triple-double, which is extremely rare in AAU basketball.

I want Illinois to snag this kid because I think he has some serious potential. Horton-Tucker has potential to be special at the next level, and I would like for the Illini to continue to have a relationship with Simeon.
