The fifth game of the season is against the Purdue Boilermakers.  This game shouldn’t be a problem for the Illini because they are a superior team to Purdue.

I predicted this score before I looked or remember what the score was last season.  But, Illinois beat the Boilermakers last year 48-14 as well.

Purdue is bringing back quarterback David Blough as the starter this year.  He was also the starter last season and was torn up by the Illini.

More from Writing Illini

Last season Illinois held Blough to just 174 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions through the air.  He had a QBR of 21.7 for the game.

The player that really hurt Illinois was running back Markell Jones.  He had 14 carries for 84 yards last season, but that was their biggest threat.

This Purdue football team was extremely young last season and still has a ton of youth this year.  They are still a few years away from being a threat in the Big Ten.

I think Illinois has an easy day with the Boilermakers.

Lunt threw for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns last season but it was Vaughn who really had a coming out party.

Vaughn rushed the ball 16 times for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns.  This was a career day for the young running back and I expect another big game from him.

Illinois shouldn’t have a problem moving to 5-0 on the season.
