Illinois Basketball: Ranking the Illini Recruiting Classes for the Last Decade
In 2013, Illinois brought in what was supposed to be a class that would make Groce a mainstay in Illini history.
The leaders of this class were Kendrick Nunn and Malcolm Hill.
Illinois Fighting Illini
Hill was a 4-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 72 player in the class of 2013.
Nunn was also a 4-star recruit but he was ranked as the No. 52 player that year.
These two were supposed to be great for the Illini. But, heading into his senior season, Nunn did something really dumb that got him kicked off the team.
In addition to Nunn and Hill, there were three other players that contributed from this class.
Austin Colbert was a 3-star recruit who spent two seasons with the Illini but then wasn’t happy with the way things were going there. He would transfer out of the program.
Jaylon Tate was a 3-star recruit who is a senior this season. He filled in when Tracy Abrams kept getting hurt but I think it was clear to everyone that he isn’t a starting D1 point guard.
Maverick Morgan was a 3-star just like the other two. He actually started many games for the Illini this past season because of injuries as well.
The class of 2013 was looking like it could have been special. The only reason it is up this high is because Hill saved it with his great play and high upside.
