The Illinois football program still has a number of top recruits for the class of 2017 that can be locked down.

Lovie Smith and the Illini continue to try and persuade some of these talented prospects to come join the Illini on an exciting new quest.

Recruiting is always fluid, but one thing is usually true and that is coach’s need to have a great deal of communication with recruits.

Relationships with recruits start as early as the eighth grade for some of these players.

Head coaches see the talent and potential in these recruits and subsequently offer them a scholarship.

But, when a head coach starts less than a year before national signing day, it is a tremendous disadvantage in the recruiting game.

This is an example of what is happening to Lovie.  He started at the beginning of March 2016 and is trying to piece together a class of 2017 that is respectable.

Lovie already has a solid number of recruits that have great potential and there are more out there that continue to eye the Illini.

I think Lovie can still pull in a solid class that will be the building blocks for the future.

Here are some key recruits to continue to keep an eye on for the class of 2017.
