The No. 1 coach on this list is clearly Michigan State’s Tom Izzo.  He is the gold standard for coaching in college basketball.

Let’s put this into a bigger view here.  Izzo hasn’t missed the NCAA Tournament since the 1996-97 season.  That is a staggering fact.

But, I am now just going to look at the last three seasons and what he has done is still amazing.

Just three seasons ago Izzo managed to take the Spartans to the Elite 8 and amassed 29 total wins.

Two years ago the Spartans were back in the Elite 8 and this time they won and advanced to the Final 4.  They fell to Duke but their run was again impressive.

This past season did not finish up the way many Michigan State fans wanted.  They were upset in the first round by No. 15 seed Middle Tennessee.

Despite the major upset, Izzo has been great for the Spartans.  He has done all of this while being an okay recruiter as well.

Over the last three seasons, Michigan State has averaged a recruiting class rank of 49th in the nation.  The fact they are so successful with those types of classes is impressive.

Izzo has also sent many players to the NBA in his career as well.  Just this past NBA Finals we saw Draymond Green doing wonders with the Golden State Warriors.

There is no doubt in my mind who the best coach in the Big Ten is and that honor goes to Izzo.
