The Maryland Terrapins were one of the powers in the ACC before they decided to join the Big Ten.

When that transition happened, along with Gary Williams moving on, the Terrapins lost a lot of ground with recruiting.

Mark Turgeon took over the program after that and resurrected it to become a contender again.  That is why he comes in at No. 5 on this list.

Turgeon has been the head coach of Maryland for the last five seasons.  He missed the postseason for the first three years, but then two years ago he hit the 28 win mark and made it to the second round.

Last season, Turgeon saw the same success and the Terrapins won 27 games.  They advanced to the Sweet 16 last year.

It is impressive how Maryland has dug themselves out of the hole and a lot of that has to do with the recruiting ability of Turgeon.

Maryland has averaged a recruiting class that ranked 35th in the nation over the last three seasons.  This was also highlighted by a class that ranked 13th as well.

Turgeon has this Maryland team heading in the right direction.  The recruiting and coaching will continue to lead this program back to the postseason every year.
