The fact that the Iowa Hawkeyes are in the NCAA Tournament perennially is amazing. They are a program in the middle of nowhere.
But, Iowa has done some amazing things and it is all led by head coach Fran McCaffery.
McCaffery comes in at the No. 6 spot because he is a coach that can get his team to the tournament, but he isn’t advancing them any further than that.
There are only two head coaches in the Big Ten that have made the postseason every year for the last three seasons and McCaffery is one of them.
McCaffery has this Iowa team on the right track. They have hit the 20 win mark for the last four consecutive season and they seem to reload every year.
Another reason McCaffery isn’t higher on this list is his recruiting ability.
McCaffery can coach and that is proven by the horrible recruiting rankings he has had. Over the last three seasons of recruiting, Iowa has averaged a class ranking of 89th in that span.
The fact McCaffery can still win with that bad of a recruiting ranking is incredible. That is a testament to his coaching ability but a black mark on his recruiting ability.
I think No. 6 is about right for McCaffery heading into the future.
Next: No. 5
