One of the great mysteries of the world is how can Iowa be so good at football year in and year out?  Well, one of the reasons is because who they have at head coach.

Kirk Ferentz took over the Hawkeyes program back in 1999.  That first year he was 1-10 and then followed it up with a 3-9 record.

After those first two rough years, Ferentz and the Hawkeyes have made a bowl game in 13 out the next 15 years.

This run for Ferentz has been quite impressive.  It also includes six bowl victories and an Orange Bowl win.

Ferentz has had a long history with the Hawkeyes and it is still going strong.  Despite bad quarterback play last year, Iowa still managed to finish the season with a record of 12-2.

The winning hasn’t stopped and Ferentz would be higher on this list if he wasn’t slouching on the recruiting front.

Over the last three recruiting classes, Iowa has finished with an average class of 43rd in the nation.  The winning may stop eventually if these are the classes he continues to bring in.

Despite the recruiting hitting a rough patch, the Hawkeyes are still contenders and having Ferentz as the No. 4 head coach seems appropriate.
