The point guard position has been a point of contention for the Illinois basketball team over the last half decade.

We haven’t had stability at the point guard position in quite some time but that could all be changing here shortly.

Illinois has Te’Jon Lucas coming in for 2016 and that would help bring stability for next season.  Tracy Abrams and Lucas will be a nice rotation in the backcourt.

Once Abrams leaves Da’Monte Williams will be coming in to take his spot.  Williams is a combo guard so he can potentially play both the one and two on the floor.  This is why we need another point guard to add to the mix.

Trent Frazier has been a name buzzing around the Illinois recruiting circles.  He is a point guard out of Wellington, Florida.

Frazier is listed as a 3-star recruit by some sites and a 4-star by others.  He is also listed as the 146th best player in the class of 2017.

According to HoopSeen, Illinois is the leader for Frazier after an in-home visit.  He said the visit went well and Illinois is right at the top of his list.

Having the ability to have a rotation of three great point guards in Lucas, Williams and Frazier would be one of the keys to future success.

The reason Frazier is a need is because he is talented and adding him would give Groce options on what to do with Williams.  He would help form a backcourt that would be feared in the Big Ten.
