The Illinois football team needs a great defense to have a great program.  History has been on the side of the Illini for this fact.

Next: DE Dawuane Smoot

Illinois has been through some great defensive players in the history of the program.  Many of them have gone on to play in the NFL.

On the current squad the Illini are going to be putting out there on Saturdays, I think they have a decent amount of good talent and some could also end up at the next level.

Right now Illinois has some great players that are still floating around the NFL.

Over in San Diego defensive tackle Corey Liuget is still dominating on the front four for the Chargers.

You can look over at the Indianapolis Colts and you will find cornerback Vontae Davis who is shutting down some of the best wide receivers in the game.

Illinois continues to put out NFL caliber talent every season and this season isn’t going to be any different.

There are a handful of NFL guys on this team and the ones who aren’t are good solid Big Ten caliber defenders.

Here is the projected defensive depth chart for the Illinois football in 2016.
