Next: Lovie Smith's Focus Should Be 2018

The middle of the Illinois defense is going to be important in Lovie Smith’s scheme.  They are going to need quick and powerful linebackers.

That is where linebacker Hugh Davis comes into play.

Davis is from Indianapolis, Indiana.  He isn’t rated yet by recruiting sites but he is a big linebacker that looks to be a high level college player.

More from Writing Illini

The recruitment is a little slow for Davis right now as he only has two scholarship offers, Central Michigan and Indiana.

In the recruiting process Davis has mentioned he would like to hear from Illinois and would be interested in what they have to offer.

I think this would be a great pickup for the Illini.  They are going to need linebackers for 2018 and Davis would be a great step in the right direction.

When the ratings come out for 2018 I think they will end up having Davis as a high 3-star, potentially low 4-star linebacker.

Illinois is actually short on at the linebacker position in the spring this year.  They only have 7 linebackers right now but in 2018 they will only have 4 at the position.

There is going to be a lot of room for Davis to make an impact and I expect the Illini to make a move on him in the near future.
