CB Houston Griffith

Next: Micah Jones

In football, especially with the Illini, there haven’t been many recruits that are must get type of players, but Houston Griffith is that type of guy.

Griffith is a cornerback in the class of 2018 that is drawing some big time attention early on in the recruiting process.

Right now Griffith has 13 scholarship offers which include three SEC teams and a plethora of others.  He is a wanted man, but I would be safe to say Illinois and their fan base want him the most.

Griffith isn’t just an ordinary player though.  He is a legacy player because his dad, Howard Griffith, played for Illinois from 1987-1990.

Getting Griffith would be a massive upgrade to a defense that is going to need defensive backs in 2018.

Illinois currently has 18 defensive backs on the roster but among those 18 players only 8 of them will be with the team by 2018.  That is going to leave plenty of room for a player like Griffith to come in and make an impact right away.

In addition to that, Griffith would be coming in to a team with a defensive mind for a coach in Lovie Smith.
