TE Tyler White

Next: WR Malik Turner

The tight end position wasn’t used a lot last season but when Tyler White was healthy he showed all of Illini Nation what he could bring to the table.

Coming out of the class of 2013 White had a ton of potential.  He was a 3-star recruit but his frame and build was something that is rare at the tight end position in college.

More from Writing Illini

In White’s freshman and sophomore seasons he was primarily a special team player.  He was good at his craft in those beginning years and he also added in some offensive production.  He caught two passes for 17 yards and a touchdown his sophomore season.

The junior year for White was supposed to be his breakout performance.  That run ended short as he dealt with a knee injury for a majority of the season.

White still managed to catch five passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns in the abbreviated time he was on the field.

This season is going to be different for White.  He is back healthy again with a new coaching staff.

I expect to see White and Lunt have pretty good chemistry, especially around the red zone.  He needs to be a go to guy around the goal line so Illinois can turn those field goals and missed chances into touchdowns.
