Did you think we would get to see the Illinois basketball team play this Sunday?

That was supposed to be the case. The Illini were scheduled to travel to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers this Sunday, January 2 at 5:00 p.m. CT. Sadly, the schedule has changed.

In a Tweet on Thursday night, the Illinois basketball Twitter account posted that the Illinois vs. Minnesota game has been rescheduled. This game will now be played on Tuesday, January 4 at 6:00 p.m. CT.

This isn’t the first schedule change for the Illinois basketball program.

It would have been nice to see the Illini play this Sunday against Minnesota, but that is clearly not happening. This is now the second game in a row that Illinois has had to change this season.

The Illini were also scheduled to take on Florida A&M this past Wednesday, December 29. That game wasn’t just postponed, but it was actually canceled altogether. Illinois will not make up the Florida A&M game.

Thankfully, Illinois and Minnesota were able to come to an agreement where they just delay the game a couple of days. This does put the Illini in a tight travel schedule, though.

Illinois now has a game on Tuesday, January 4. The next game would be that Thursday, January 6 back home against Maryland. So, there is only one full day of rest before another Big Ten game. That is tough.

I was fully expecting Illinois to look rusty against Minnesota if the game was going to be this Sunday, but now that the game is delayed a couple of more days, I am not sure what I am going to see out of the Orange and Blue.

It will be a full 12 days between games, so nearly a two-week break of gameplay. I don’t think I have ever seen that in the middle of the season. Hopefully, we can shake that rust early and move to 10-3 on Tuesday.
