No. 2 Guard

Starter: Alfonso Plummer

Illinois’ starting rotation is affected starting at the No. 2 spot. This is where I would put Alfonso Plummer. The kid can light up the scoreboard on any given night, and having him as the starting No. 2 guard for the Illini will give the program so much firepower.

Plummer did some solid work while he was with Utah. He averaged 13.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1 assist per game while hitting 38.3-percent of his three-point shots. Those are all great numbers that I would love him to bring to Champaign. Plummer’s numbers weren’t against a bad conference either. He was able to hit three-pointers at that high of a clip against the Pac-12. That means he can do it in any conference. I love this addition for the Illini.

Backup: Luke Goode

The experience of Frazier and Plummer on the Illinois roster doesn’t just have an impact on the lineup. It has an impact in helping the younger guys learn how to carry themselves, how to be a part of a team and how to build a culture in a program. I am extremely excited to see these two help Luke Goode along in this process.

Goode is a sharpshooting wing who will benefit greatly from learning behind Frazier and Plummer for a season. I still see Goode getting somewhere in the ballpark of 10-15 minutes per game, and in this time, he should be able to put up some solid numbers. Goode will probably play alongside these two experienced guards at times too. I think he fits well as the backup No. 2 guard.
