The reason that Jeff George is not higher on this list is because he only spent two seasons with the Illinois program.

If George would have been a three or four-year quarterback, there is no doubt he would have been toward the top.

George started his college career with the Purdue Boilermakers.  He didn’t have much success there through one season, though.

Purdue lost this great quarterback when George transferred after Purdue fired their head coach Leon Burtnett.

Illinois received George in 1987 and he had to sit out a season.  He finally got his chance to shine in the 1988 season and that is exactly what he did.

George threw for 2,257 yards and 9 touchdowns in his first season with the Illini.  They finished with a record of 6-5-1 that season and lost the All-American Bowl to Florida.

The following season would be the final one for George.  He threw for 2,738 yards and 22 touchdowns that year.

Illinois ended up making the Citrus Bowl that year after winning 10 games.  They beat Virginia in that game 31-21.

George departed for the NFL and was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the No. 1 pick in the 1990 NFL Draft.
