Johnny Johnson only spent three seasons with the Illini and did pretty well.  For a career, he was one of the more underrated quarterbacks in history.

In his career, Johnson amassed a total of 5,358 yards which still ranks No. 7 all-time in career total offensive yardage in school history.

The teams that Johnson was on weren’t bad either.

In the first year, Johnson was under center, he threw for 1,688 yards and 11 touchdowns.  The team finished at 5-6 and barely missed a bowl game.

The following season the Illini played a lot better and made a bowl game.  Johnson led Illinois to the Liberty Bowl with a 7-5 record.

The Illini won the Liberty Bowl over East Carolina 30-0.

In Johnson’s final season with the Illini, they were 5-5-1.  They missed a bowl game and his career came to an end.

Johnson had a solid career with Illinois.  He was an effective offensive quarterback who helped lead the Illini to some winning in his time in Champaign.
