When head coach Mike Riley decided to take the job with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, I thought it could have been a solid hire.

Time will only tell on this hire, but in year one it seemed to have been a fail.

More from Writing Illini

Nebraska was a top 25 program for a long time.  They recently have dropped off quite a bit.

Riley didn’t do well last season.  Nebraska did make it to a bowl game and won, but their losses in the regular season are head scratching.

The Cornhuskers lost to Illinois and Purdue last year.  That isn’t a good sign for a coach in his first season.

The first recruiting class Riley is bringing in is ranked 29th in the nation, which is pretty solid.  This could help Nebraska a lot in the future.

With the talent and resources that Nebraska provides, they should have been much better last season.

If Riley doesn’t rebound this year I wouldn’t doubt if he becomes a head coach on the hot seat soon.
