The South defeated the North, 21-16, in the 2013 Senior Bowl.

There were many players trying to boost their draft stock in this game. Some did just that while others left Mobile, Alabama with only questions.

Here are the five players who helped themselves in this year’s Senior Bowl.

1) QB Mike Glennon (North Carolina State) – North

Even though the North lost to the South, Mike Glennon had himself a very successful Senior Bowl performance. The big weakness that many say about Glennon is that his average foot quickness will lead him to have problems against defenders when the pocket collapses. I know the type of skill if higher with NFL players, but Glennon did not seem to have that problem in Mobile. There was one play in the 2nd half where he escaped the pocket and was able to scramble and set his feet for a picture-perfect bomb to his wide receiver on the sideline. Glennon showed that he could be worth taking in this year’s NFL draft.

2) OL Lane Johnson (Oklahoma) – South

Lane Johnson is not just an offensive lineman. He is a pure athlete. Johnson has played both quarterback and tight end before switching to the offensive line at Oklahoma. Like I mentioned before, the NFL talent is different than what was seen in the Senior Bowl. However, Johnson showed that his lack of experience on the O-Line shouldn’t be a huge concern. When facing Illinois’ Michael Buchanan, he used Buchanan’s speed to guide him right past his quarterback for a nice gain.

3) DB Jordan Poyer (Oregon State) – North

After his performance at the Senior Bowl, I would not be surprised if we hear Jordan Poyer’s name called on draft day. The one thing I took away from his performance is that he has the ability to force turnovers at any point. There was a play in the fourth quarter where Poyer helped the North force an interception. If it one thing that is important on defense, it is forcing turnovers.

4) QB E.J. Manuel (Florida State) – South

What can you say about the Senior bowl MVP, E.J. Manuel? Should he be a 1st rounder? No. Will his stock climb because of this game? Yes. Manuel played a very well game in the 2013 Senior Bowl. To me, I could not help, but think that he could be the “poor man’s” option for the Philadelphia Eagles. Why would he be that for the Eagles? That is because of their hiring of Chip Kelly this offseason. If Philadelphia cannot or does not want Geno Smith, Manuel could be their next best offer. He showed some arm strength, but did also show that he forces throws that could lead to turnovers.

5) OL Eric Fisher (Central Michigan) – North

Eric Fisher proved on Saturday that he does deserve to be in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. In my first mock draft, I have Fisher going to the San Diego Chargers at #11. The biggest concern with him was the level of competition he faced while at Central Michigan. Fisher should be a quality first round no matter where he ends up going.

The 2013 Senior Bowl will kickoff today at 4:00 p.m.

Many different seniors will try to impressive the NFL scouts to make a buzz before the NFL Combine. Players will need to be on their game today because there is no one in this year’s Senior Bowl that does not need to move up.

Here are five players to watch in today’s Senior Bowl.

1) QB Landry Jones (Oklahoma) – South

Out of all six quarterbacks in the 2013 Senior Bowl, Landry Jones is the most important one. Jones did not have the season that many were expecting him to have this year. This year is the weakest quarterback class the NFL Draft has seen in years. If Jones can excel in the 2013 Senior Bowl, he could move up the ranks among the quarterback class. He most likely will not be a first rounder, but could be among the first quarterbacks taken with a good Senior Bowl game.

2) WR Denard Robinson (Michigan) – North

Denard Robinson has the most to gain or the most to lose in this year’s Senior Bowl. He is a mobile quarterback that is trying to switch to wide receiver. Who does that sound like? Remember Marcus Vick of Virginia Tech? Robinson can either make a name for himself as a wide receiver or become the next Marcus Vick.

3) WR Tavarres King (Georgia) – South

Besides Denard Robinson, the actual wide receiver who needs to have a good performance in the Senior Bowl is Tavarres King. He did not record triple-digit yards until the SEC Championship and he has been know to have a case of the “drop-skies.” With a good performance on today in Mobile, King can either put his name into the wide receiver discussion or be a mid-to-late draft pick-up.

4) OL Eric Fisher (Central Michigan) – North

Eric Fisher is one of the top offensive lineman coming into this April’s draft. One concern that some have about him is the level of competition he faced while at Central Michigan. The Senior Bowl could be the chance Fisher needs to prove how good he really is. If Fisher plays well, he might become a Top 10 pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

5) DL Ezekial Ansah (BYU) – South

Ezekial Ansah is similar to Eric Fisher. He could be a sleeper in this year’s Senior Bowl. The general public might sleep on him because he is from BYU, but he could prove to everyone that he deserves to be labeled as a first round talent. Some have him as a late first rounder although a good performance can only make his stock go up.
