The Illinois football team is trying to build the class of 2018 into a group of players who can make an impact on the program for years to come.

This class is Lovie Smith’s first real class since becoming the head coach of the Illini program a little over a year ago. Getting top players and depth for 2018 is going to be key to the future success for Illinois.

In the most recent bundle of scholarship offers, Lovie and the coaching staff really focused on the defensive backfield. That means they have offered scholarships to players that play positions like cornerback and safety.

The Illini have starters at these positions that will impress fans for the next few years. When 2018 rolls around, only five of the 11 current defensive backs will have graduated. That means the Illini roster is extremely young and that bodes well for the future.

But, Illinois always needs more depth. They could always use more defensive backs that cause competitions for each position and could also take the starting job away from the incumbent starter. There is more room for talented players on this team.

Here are the most recent scholarship offers by the Illini.
