The Illinois basketball team is recruiting a tremendous amount of talent for the future.

They have four scholarships available for 2017, five for 2018 and eight for 2019. That is plenty of room for Brad Underwood and his coaching staff to bring in talented players who will help this team reach the pinnacle of the game once again.

One of the most important positions to recruit is point guard. This is the floor general and someone who leads the team on the court with their great vision and playmaking abilities. They are the quarterback of the team.

Without a good point guard, your team will struggle for as long as it takes to find a good one. That happened to Illinois during the John Groce era. He couldn’t find the right point guard for his teams and that enabled him to miss four straight NCAA tournaments.

Groce did end up finding a great point guard in Te’Jon Lucas but it was too late. Lucas will now help lead the team into the future. Hopefully, Underwood can continue to land these great point guards. He already had Mark Smith commit and Trent Frazier is a holdover from the class of 2017.

Here are four point guards to focus on for the future.
