The Illinois basketball team needs a center for the upcoming season and into the future.

This is a tough task for Brad Underwood and the coaching staff to accomplish. There aren’t many players left for 2017 and that will make it difficult to find a player to man the paint. But, the future is full of big men who the Illini are after.

Here is a list of the top center targets for Brad Underwood.

Akoy Agau 6-foot-9, 230-pounds; Class of 2017

The Illinois basketball team is pursuing many options for 2017 and beyond. One big target in the transfer market is 6-foot-9, 230-pound transfer, Akoy Agau.

Agau is exactly what the Illini need at the No. 5 spot. He has solid size and is extremely athletic, which will fit well in Brad Underwood’s system.

Coming out of high school, Agau was rated as a three-star recruit who was the No. 19 center in the nation. He committed to Louisville but only ended up playing two seasons there.

Agau didn’t play much during his time with the Cardinals. He only averaged 5 minutes, .9 points and 1.1 rebounds per game in year one. The following season his stats continued to drop as he only averaged 3.7 minutes, 0 points and .3 rebounds.

After his two-year stint with Louisville, Agau decided to transfer to Georgetown. He started to grow with the Hoyas and had a pretty good season last year. He averaged 15 minutes, 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Now Agau is looking for a home to finish his college career. He will be eligible immediately, and that is a huge benefit for the Illini. They need someone this year and Agau fits that bill. If Underwood can land him it would be huge for the program.
