Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series! In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.
Last up in our Countdown to Kickoff series is Illinois’ head football coach Tim Beckman.
Beckman has been at the helm of Illinois football since the 2012 season. In his first two years with the Fighting Illini, he has complied an overall record of 6-18.
There’s no question that this upcoming season will be an important one for Tim Beckman at Illinois because most Illini fans want to see their team win games now.
This past offseason, NFL.com ranked Tim Beckman’s seat as the fourth hottest in college football for 2014.
However, the 2014 season might not be a “Bowl-or-Bust” season for Beckman and his Fighting Illini.
The offense looked MUCH better in 2013 under the Bill Cubit system, and it should look even better with Wes Lunt at the quarterback position this season.
The biggest part of the Illini this season will be the defense. Beckman has brought in a ton of recruits on the defensive side, and it’s time to see those recruits pay off.
If the defense can reduce the number of points and rushing yards they gave up from a season ago, then the offense should be able to put the Orange & Blue in some very winnable situations.
Although, the Fighting Illini will still need to “start fast” in games this season.
