Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series! In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.
Kelly redshirted the entire 2013 season after coming to Champaign as a three-star recruit out of high school. In a shortened senior season, he totaled 30 tackles and four interceptions at H.D. Woodson High School in Maryland.
Illini Nation is sick and tired of hearing it, but the 2014 season is going to be a big year for the Illinois defense.
The 2013 season was not a very positive year for the Orange & Blue on defense, and fans are hoping that the defensive unit shows some kind of an improvement this time around.
The secondary could be were most of the focus goes coming into the season opener due to their youth and “inexperience.”
Reilly O’Toole will be entering his senior season with the Fighting Illini and his third season as a back-up quarterback in the offense.
Because Lunt hasn’t played in a football game since the 2012 season, some Illini fans might question whether or not he can stay healthy for an entire season.
If by any chance Lunt does goes down for any amount of time due to an injury, Reilly O’Toole will be the guy Bill Cubit looks at to run his offense in Lunt’s absence.
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
