Illinois football continued its recent success on the in-state recruiting trail, this time securing a commitment from Warren Township High School three-star TE/WR Caleb Reams.
Reams is one of the top recruits in the state of Illinois, and his film backs that up.
While watching the film, it was hard not to compare Reams’ play to that of a Jimmy Graham.
He can line up as a tight end or a wide receiver in the slot.
He also looks to clearly be a tight end in size, but displays the hands and ability to run routes like a wide receiver.
Some see Caleb Reams’ size as a negative, but it doesn’t look to be one on the tape.
Standing at 6’3″, and weighing 220 lbs, Reams is very similar in size to current Illinois senior TE Jon Davis. He uses his size very well, especially over the middle of the field.
Because of that. the 2015 tight end will fit very nicely into Bill Cubit’s offense system at Illinois. With his hands and athleticism, Illini Nation could be talking about Caleb Reams next offseason like they are talking about Mikey Dudek right now.
Bill Cubit loves to take the ball deep and spread the field. Reams is the perfect tool at TE to achieve that goal. He has the ability to cause mismatches in the secondary as corners and safeties are too small to defend him.
Reams is the second tight end commit of the 2015 recruiting class for the Fighting Illini.
He choose the Orange & Blue over offers from Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Wake Forest, and Western Michigan.
