Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series! In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.
Little joined the Fighting Illini as a three-star Florida recruit in 2012. After redshirting during the 2012 season, he played in all twelve games as a special teamer in 2013 and totaled six tackles.
There’s a chance that Little could increase his role on the Illini defense this upcoming season.
This year’s Illini secondary is full of young talent. If the defense wants to improve from last season, that young talent in the secondary will definitely need to step up in a big way.
Aaron Bailey joined the Orange & Blue last year as a four-star recruit out of Bolingbrook High School.
Bailey played in nine games for Illinois as more of a rushing threat in Bill Cubit’s offense a year ago.
The sophomore QB is right in the middle of a quarterback battle this offseason. Many Illini fans are waiting to see who among Wes Lunt, Aaron Bailey, and Reilly O’Toole will be named the Illini starting quarterback for the 2014 season.
Wes Lunt seems to be the clear cut favorite among Illini faithful to win the starting job. Although, one positive for Bailey is that this is his second season in the Bill Cubit offense. That “should” eliminate any learning curves and difficulties with him learning the playbook.
Writing Illini’s own Ryan Kraemer was at Camp Rantoul on Monday and thinks the quarterback battle may already have been won by one of the Illini QBs.
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
