Despite all the excitement from Illini Nation for the start of the 2014 football season, Illinois soccer saw some good news come their way as senior forward Jannelle Flaws was named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy watch list on Wednesday.
Last season, Flaws led the nation in scoring with 23 goals. She scored a goal in 15 of Illinois’ 23 games and had six multi-goal games.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is one of the top honors in NCAA soccer. The trophy is presented annually to one male and one female athlete. This season’s winners will be announced on January 9th, 2015 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Among the 35 players named to the watch list, the Illinois forward was just one of two Big Ten players to make the list (with the other being PSU’s Whitney Church).
The Fighting Illini will definitely need Flaws to be a force offensively if they wish to be more successful this upcoming season.
The team opens the season off with a tough home stretch against Norte Dame, Louisville, and Arizona State.
