Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series! In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.
Next up in the Countdown to Kickoff series is #24 Darius Mosely. Mosely is entering his sophomore season as a member of the Fighting Illini.
Mosely played in all twelve games for Illinois as a true freshman in 2013. He even started in three games (MSU, PSU, and Indiana) for the injured V’Angelo Bentley as well.
In those twelve games last season, he recorded 36 total tackles (21 solo/15 assisted), 0.5 tackle-for-loss, one fumble recovery, and one pass deflection.
As a unit, this season is going to be a big year for the Illinois defense.
The 2013 season was not a very positive year for the Orange & Blue on defense, and fans are hoping that the defensive unit shows some kind of an improvement this time around.
For Mosely, improvement is the name of the game. It looks like he will be behind Bentley again on the depth chart at CB, but there is a possibility that he could line up opposite of Bentley as a starter.
However, whether he is a starter or not, Illini Nation should be happy with Darius Mosely as long as he shows improvements from his freshman to sophomore season.
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
