Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series! In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.
Next up in the Countdown to Kickoff series is #28 defensive back Jaylen Dunlap. Dunlap is entering his sophomore season as a member of the Fighting Illini.
Last year as a freshman, Jaylen Dunlap played in all twelve games for the Orange & Blue.
He finished the season with 26 total tackles (18 solo/8 assisted), one tackle-for-loss, and two defended passes.
This season is going to be a big year for the Illinois defense.
The 2013 season was not a very positive year for the Orange & Blue on defense, and fans are hoping that the defensive unit shows some kind of an improvement this time around.
There’s no doubt that Jaylen Dunlap’s role in the Illinois defense will be increased this upcoming season.
After playing in all twelve games in 2013, I expect to see him play in all twelve again this season, however, Dunlap’s numbers will need to be better if the defense wants to see more success.
Right now, ourlads.com has Dunlap listed as the second string cornerback behind sophomore Caleb Day and junior V’Angelo Bentley.
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
