Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series! In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.
Next up in the Countdown to Kickoff series is a pair of #31’s in defensive back Nick North and wide receiver Leslie Poole.
North join the Fighting Illini in 2011 as a three-star recruit out of McArthur High School in Hollywood, Florida. He redshirted his first season and will be entering his junior season at Illinois.
The redshirt junior has only played in one game during his Illini career which was a 2012 game against Charleston Southern.
Overall, this season is going to be a big year for the Illinois defense.
The 2013 season was not a positive year for the Orange & Blue on defense, and fans are hoping that the defensive unit shows some kind of an improvement this time around.
As for Poole, he joined the team during the 2012 spring practices. He was a two-time letterwinner and played cornerback/safety at Coriant High School in Schaumburg, Illinois.
Although the Fighting Illini lost a ton of talent at the wide receiver position this offseason, Poole could still find himself towards the bottom of the wide receiver core.
Right now, ourlads.com has the junior receiver as the last player on the depth chart at the wide receiver position. However, Illini Nation didn’t expect Steve Hull to be used as much as he was in 2013, but he turned out to have a successful year for Illinois.
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
