On Friday, it was announced that the Illinois Athletics and Illini baseball HC Dan Hartleb hired former Creighton associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Spencer Allen as an assistant coach.
Allen has been with the Creighton Bluejays for the past two seasons. In those seasons, he posted a 62-35-1 record with Creighton and helped the team win its first Big East regular season title last season.
Per fightingillini.com, Hartleb showed his excitement for Illinois’ new hiring by saying:
“I am extremely excited about the addition of Spencer Allen to our coaching staff. Spencer has a proven track record of being one of the top recruiters in the Midwest. He has great experience and is well-respected by his peers as a recruiter and an on-the-field coach. Spencer will continue to help us bring in quality players that allow us to compete at the national level. Spencer brings a great work ethic with high energy and impeccable integrity.”
One thing that Illini Nation can except Spencer Allen to bring to the Orange & Blue is his success and his work ethic when it comes to hitting.
When he came back to Creighton two seasons ago, Allen helped the team’s plate production and increased their batting average by over 30 points.
Now, the exact result might not be the same in Champaign, but the Illini average could see an increase with the help of Allen next season.
Spencer Allen is also a great recruiter.
Allen will make sure that Illinois sees quality talent come into town in order to compete with the Big Ten as well as for a national title many seasons to come.
Here’s what Spencer Allen had to say about joining the Illinois Baseball staff:
“I am very excited to be a part of the Illinois baseball program, this coaching staff and the athletic department. I am very familiar with this program and the success it has had recently and in its rich history. I look forward to meeting with the players and getting things going once I get on campus.”
