Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series!  In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.

Next up in the Countdown to Kickoff series is #46 linebacker Henry McGrew.

McGrew will be entering his first season with the Fighting Illini, as he was one of the team’s signees from the 2014 recruiting class.

McGrew was a three-star recruit coming out of Blue Valley High School in Overland Park, Kansas.

During his high school career, he played both on the offense and defense at QB and LB.

This season is going to be a big year for the Illinois defense.

The 2013 season was not a positive year for the Orange & Blue on defense, and fans are hoping that the defensive unit shows some kind of an improvement this time around.

Although he’s just a freshman, Henry McGrew is going to try his hardest in order to earn some early playing time for the Fighting Illini this season.

According to the News-Gazette, McGrew said that his goal “is to definitely get some early playing time” by “working as hard as I can.”

Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
