Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series!  In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.

Next up in the Countdown to Kickoff series is #52 offensive lineman Alex Hill. Hill is entering his final season as a member of the Illinois Fighting Illini.

After playing in all twelve games for the Orange & Blue in 2012, Hill started eleven games at the center and left guard positions last season.

Hill helped the Illinois offense to 5,120 total yards in Bill Cubit’s first year as offensive coordinator.

Of those 5,120 yards, the Fighting Illini threw for 3,452 yards and ran for 1,668 yards.

The Illini also were able to score 43 touchdowns (23 passing and 20 rushing) in 2013.

Illini Nation should expect to see Alex Hill as a starter for Bill Cubit’s offense in 2014.

Barring any unforeseen injury, Hill should be the starting at the center position for the Fighting Illini when the team takes the field against Youngstown State on August 30th.

Along with Hill, Illinois be also be returning starters Ted Karras, Simon Cvijanovic, and Michael Heitz to the offensive line this upcoming season.

Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
