Steve Dumezich Days Until Illinois Fighting Illini Season Opener

Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series!  In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.

Next up in the Countdown to Kickoff series is #64 Steve Dumezich. Dumezich joined the Fighting Illini this summer as a walk-on.

Dumezich played his high school football at Mount Carmel and will be a freshman for Fighting Illini in 2014.

Last season, the Illinois’ offensive line helped the offense to 5,120 total yards in Bill Cubit’s first year as offensive coordinator.

Of those 5,120 yards, the Fighting Illini threw for 3,452 yards and ran for 1,668 yards.

The Illini also were able to score 43 touchdowns (23 passing and 20 rushing) in 2013.

It would be a total shock to see Steve Dumezich start or even play for the Illinois on offense in 2014.

However, there is one open slot on the Illinois offensive line. So, if Dumezich can really impress the coaching staff this summer, there might be the smallest of chances that he plays this upcoming season, but that still isn’t too likely to happen.

Unless the Illini O-Line get desecrated by injuries, there’s a very good chance Dumezich will not see the field for the Orange & Blue in 2014.

Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
