On Wednesday, Tim Beckman and company received some much needed good news as 2015 safety Patrick Nelson gave his verbal commitment to the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Illinois was able to gain Nelson’s commitment just one day after extending him an offer and received his commitment over four other schools including Big Ten foe Indiana.
According to Illini247, Patrick Nelson feels right at home with the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Nelson had this to say when it comes to his new football family:
“Illinois was a great place. I fit perfect in their defense. I felt that I’m really wanted there.”
Patrick Nelson is the eighth commitment for the Orange & Blue and was recruited by Tim Banks and Mike Bellamy.
Illini Nation is hoping that Nelson can help the Fighting Illini defense become a solid unit in the Big Ten. After the success that the Illini offense saw in 2013, the defense is the only thing holding the team back.
Besides being excited about committing to the Illini, Nelson also hopes to bring more recruits to join him in Champaign.
The Chicago, Illinois native told Illini247 that he is looking “forward to trying to recruit others to Illinois.”
The three-star recruit is currently ranked 15th in the state of Illinois, 58th among safeties, and 790th among 2015 high school recruits by 247Sports.
