Illinois Fighting Illini Golf: Brian Campbell, Thomas Detry, and Charlie Danielson Named All-Americans

On Thursday, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced their 2014 PING All-America Teams.

The Illinois Fighting Illini saw their star golfer from this past season Brian Campbell make the PING second-team All-American team while his teammates Thomas Detry and Charlie Danielson were named honorable mentions.

This is the second time in Illinois school history that three of its golfers have earned All-America honors in the same season. The last three to do so were Luke Guthrie, Scott Langley, and Chris DeForest in 2011.

The second-team All-Ameria honor is the first for Brian Campbell, who is currently ranked 25th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. He finished tied for ninth at the NCAA Championships and helped the Fighting Illini go on an impressive run.

The All-America honor is also Thomas Detry’s first of his career. Detry is currently ranked 12th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The Illinois sophomore had nine Top 25 finishes and recorded fifteen rounds under par.

As for Danielson, the All-America honor is the second one of his career as he was an honorable mention in 2013. As a sophomore, he posted four Top 5 finishes and nine Top 25 finishes. Danielson was also a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection.
