Welcome to our Countdown to Kickoff series! In this series, we’ll do roster previews as we count down the days until the Illinois Fighting Illini August 30th season opener against Youngstown State.
Next up in the Countdown to Kickoff series is #82 Kameron Fry. Fry joined the Illinois Fighting Illini as a walk-on during 2013 spring practices.
The Illini sophomore wide receiver grew up less than half a mile from the Illinois campus.
As a senior at Urbana High School, he was an All-Conference receiver and special mention All-Area selection. He also averaged 20 yards per catch on 22 receptions.
Fry did not record a single reception in his first season at Illinois.
Despite not racking up any receptions during his freshman season, Kameron Fry might have the opportunity to get some kind of a foot in the door when it comes to Bill Cubit’s offensive system.
Illinois saw a ton of talent leave the wide receiver this past offseason. However, Bill Cubit has some quality options to use at the wide receiver position.
It’s clear that Geronimo Allison and Martize Barr will be #1 and #2 in the Illini wide receiver corp. Illinois also returns receivers Justin Hardee and Dionte Taylor. Barr, Hardee, and Taylor all have receptions in 2013.
There will be a few “holes” to fill for the Illini at the wide receiver position coming into this upcoming season.
Illini fans shouldn’t be surprised if Kameron Fry isn’t apart of Cubit’s offense in 2014. This is because he will be competing with guys like Mike Dudek, Zach Grant, Kenny Knight, Jeremy Whitlow, and and Marchie Murdock for receptions coming into the 2014 season.
Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on August 30th.
