Tim Beckman and the Illinois Fighting Illini were able to pick up their first verbal commitment from the month of June as 2015 JUCO tight end Andrew Davis gave his verbal to the Orange & Blue on Sunday.
Besides Illinois, the only major player in the recruitment of Davis was the Texas Longhorns.
Davis was just in Champaign last week for an unofficial visit (2nd visit to Illinois) and knew that things just felt right when it came to Illinois.
When asked about why he committed to Illinois, the 2015 JUCO tight end told 247Sports:
“After going on my second visit, I knew I wanted to go there. The coaching staff is amazing and the academics are great as well. I’m feeling really good after making my decision. I fit into their offense perfectly and I feel like big things are coming for Illinois.”
Andrew Davis is now the sixth commitment for the Illini from the Class of 2015, and he plans to bring some more help to Champaign.
Illini Nation can expect Davis to be the biggest spokesman in getting his Iowa Western teammate Charlie Rogers to commit to the Fighting Illini as well.
The 6’6″ tight end also took a big liking to offensive coordinator Bill Cubits system.
That’s great because he could be a great target for quarterback Wes Lunt in Cubit’s system in 2015.
The three-star recruit is currently ranked 4th in the state of Iowa, 4th (2nd JUCO) among tight end, and 73rd among 2015 JUCO recruits by 247Sports.
