Over the weekend, the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee announced its declarations for the NCAA Preliminary Track and Field Championships.
The Illinois Fighting Illini earned a total of ten entries in the NCAA Preliminary Track and Field Championships and will compete in the west region.
Out of the ten entries, the Illini will send nine individual athletes to the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
Jess Ejesieme was the only Fighting Illini runner to qualify for two events (100m hurdles and 400m hurdles) in the NCAA West Preliminary Round.
The other Illini runners to qualify for track events include: Mobolaji Adeokun (100m hurdles), Ahlivia Spencer (800m), Chloe Schmidt (800m), Alyssa Schneider (10,000m), and Asia Thomas (400m).
The three Fighting Illini to qualify for the NCAA Preliminary Round field events are Mariah Smith (discus), Jazjuan Wallace-Sipp (discus), and Kandie Bloch-Jones (high jump).
The NCAA West Preliminary Round will take place in Fayetteville, Arkansas on May 29th-31th.
The Top 12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 11th-14th.
