Illinois Fighting Illini Golf: Fighting Illini In Tenth Entering Third Round at NCAA Championships

After being rained out on Friday and shooting five-over-par on Saturday, the Illinois Fighting Illini found themselves sitting tenth overall at the end of the Second Round of the NCAA Championships on Sunday.

As a team, the Illini shot a 280 (E) on Sunday and moved up five spots on the team leader board. The star of the day for the Illini was sophomore Thomas Detry.

Detry was able to record the best round for an Illini golfer at the NCAA Championships by finishing the Second Round with a five-under-par 65.

Per fightingillini.com, Thomas Detry had this to say following the Second Round:

“It’s always hard to start a round early like that. I had a good feeling, though, because I was hitting the ball well on the range. I hit a good tee shot on the first tee, so I was positive. It’s a hard hole, the wind was blowing in our faces. Then I made that putt (for birdie on 16), which was big. I had a good par save on 17 and almost made that putt on 18 (for birdie). It was a good eraser score for the team.”

The Fighting Illini will tee off the Third Round of the NCAA Championships at 12:50-1:30 on Monday alongside Auburn (T11) and Vanderbilt (T11).
