Per nola.com, former Illini wide receiver Steve Hull signed as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints earlier this week.
Hull and 37 other undrafted players were invited to tryout for the Saints during the team’s mini-camp.
Naturally, social media circles were abuzz with the news that one of Illinois top wide receivers was signing with an NFL team.
Here’s some of the tweets sent out to Steve’s Twitter (@SteveHull5) from members of both Illini Nation and Who Dat Nation:
Hull started out as a safety for the Fighting Illini, but was converted to the wide receiver position. When Lankford went down with an injury this past season, Steve Hull stepped up to the plate and led the Illini in receiving on the year.
He hauled in 59 receptions for 993 yards and 7 touchdowns while averaging 16.8 yards per reception. He also led the nation with 46 catches for 712 receiving yards during the last five games of 2013.
We here at Writing Illini want to congratulate Steve on his new contract and wish him the best of luck with the Saints! Illini Nation will be watching and wishing you nothing but success on your road to making an impact as a member of the New Orleans Saints.
